Costumes for Carousel are being provided by Thespis Theatrical Costumiers Ltd, who also supplied the acclaimed costume set for NNOS’s hit production of Les Misérables last year. Carousel marks the launch of an entirely new Thespis costume set, created in our studios specifically for the 2026 season, with Norfolk and Norwich Operatic Society as the launch customer.

As one of the defining works by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Carousel stands as a cornerstone of the Golden Age of musical theatre — a score and story that demand honesty, emotional depth, and period authenticity. The new Thespis costume set has been designed to honour that legacy, supporting the musical’s sweeping romance and raw humanity while bringing scale, texture, and character to this eagerly anticipated revival.

Following the phenomenal success of their spectacular centenary productions of Les Misérables, Norfolk and Norwich Operatic Society are thrilled to announce their 2026 production: Carousel, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s timeless masterpiece.

Carousel tells the dramatic and deeply moving love story of carnival worker Billy Bigelow, who falls for the sweet yet naïve Julie Jordan at the carousel. As romance blossoms, their happiness is tragically disrupted when the wayward sailor Jigger Craigin persuades Billy to take part in a robbery — with devastating consequences. It is a powerful tale of hope, redemption, and the enduring strength of love.

This exciting new production will be brought vividly to life with stunning direction and choreography by Adam Haigh, supported by the richness and emotional sweep of a 26-piece orchestra.

The glorious score features some of musical theatre’s most beloved songs, including If I Loved You, What’s the Use of Wonderin’, June Is Bustin’ Out All Over, and the iconic, heart-rending anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.

NNOS are once again partnering with Thespis Theatrical Costumiers, who supplied the acclaimed costume set for their hit production of Les Misérables last year. Building on that successful collaboration, Thespis are proud to be providing costumes for Carousel, bringing authenticity, scale, and period detail to this eagerly anticipated production.
