A Spectacular New Collection from Thespis

The Prince of Egypt is unlike any musical we have previously undertaken.

From the splendour of Pharaoh’s palace to the hardship of the Hebrew slaves, every scene requires a strong and immediate visual contrast.

Our team are researching the clothing, colours, textiles and ceremonial traditions associated with Ancient Egypt and the wider biblical world.

The collection will draw on:

Ancient Egyptian dress
Royal ceremonial clothing
Military uniforms and armour
Hebrew clothing
Priestly garments
Court officials
Workers and artisans
Desert travellers
Midianite clothing
Nomadic and tribal dress
Rich ceremonial textiles
Period jewellery and headwear

As always, our aim is to combine historical inspiration with practical theatrical design that performs beautifully under modern stage lighting.

Synopsis

Journey from the splendour of Ancient Egypt to the shores of the Red Sea in one of the most epic musicals ever written.

Raised together as brothers within the royal household of Pharaoh, Moses and Ramses grow up surrounded by wealth, power and privilege.

When Moses discovers his true identity as a Hebrew, he must choose between the life he has always known and the destiny that awaits him.

Featuring Stephen Schwartz’s soaring score, including When You Believe, The Prince of Egypt tells a timeless story of family, freedom, faith, courage and hope.

Period Detail with a Thespis Twist

We do not intend simply to copy costumes already seen elsewhere.

Our collection will be informed by the visual scale of the original London production, but interpreted through the distinctive Thespis approach.

That means combining:

Historical research
Strong character silhouettes
Rich fabrics and textures
Stage-friendly construction
Practical costume changes
Durability for repeated performances
Comfort for adult and younger performers
Clear visual storytelling

Where appropriate, we will incorporate theatrical ideas and practical innovations developed through decades of supplying complete productions.

Every costume will be created with live performance in mind.

Strong visual impact under stage lighting
Practical movement for singing and dancing
Quick-change considerations
Durable construction
Comfortable fabrics where possible
Flexible sizing options

The finished collection will be designed to look impressive from the auditorium while remaining manageable backstage.

Every theatre company has different requirements.

The collection is being developed with flexibility in mind and will be suitable for:

Adult productions
Youth theatre
Schools and colleges
Amateur dramatic societies
Operatic societies

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Prince of Egypt costume collection available now?

The collection is currently in development and is planned for the 2027 production season.

Companies considering staging The Prince of Egypt are welcome to register their interest now. We'll keep you updated as the collection progresses and let you know when bookings officially open.

Can we register before our dates are confirmed?

Absolutely.

Many companies contact us before licences are released or venues are confirmed.

Even if your performance dates, cast size or venue are still provisional, we recommend registering your interest as early as possible. We'll also advise you of any known booking clashes that may affect your preferred dates.

Does registering our interest commit us to booking?

No.

Registering your interest is completely free and carries no obligation whatsoever.

It simply allows us to keep you informed as the collection develops and helps us plan production levels.

Will the costumes match the original London production?

Our collection will take inspiration from the scale, richness and visual impact associated with the acclaimed London production.

Rather than creating replicas, we are developing a distinctive Thespis interpretation that combines historical research, practical theatre design and solutions developed specifically for schools, youth theatre and amateur companies.

Are the costumes suitable for schools and younger performers?

Yes.

The collection is being designed for adult companies, schools, colleges and youth theatre groups.

Where appropriate, costumes will be practical, durable and comfortable while maintaining the overall visual impact of the production.

Will footwear and accessories be included?

Yes.

As with our other full-show costume collections, our intention is to supply a comprehensive package including footwear, belts, jewellery, headwear, staffs, armour and other accessories where appropriate.

The final contents will be confirmed as the collection develops.

Can you accommodate large casts?

Yes.

Large ensemble productions are one of our specialities.

Our collections are designed to accommodate productions of varying sizes, and larger casts can often benefit from discounted package pricing compared with hiring additional costumes individually.

Please let us know your approximate cast size when making your enquiry so we can prepare the most suitable quotation.

Can we hire just a few costumes?

Generally, no.

Thespis specialises in complete full-show costume hire rather than supplying individual costumes.

This ensures visual consistency across the entire production and allows us to maintain the high standards our customers expect.

Unfortunately, we are unable to cherry-pick individual costumes from complete collections, particularly during busy production periods.

How are the costumes supplied?

Every production is supplied ready for your wardrobe team.

Costumes arrive:

Named in individual garment bags
On hangers
Fully barcoded
Pre-sorted by character
Pre-sorted by scene where appropriate

Simply transfer them onto your wardrobe rails and you're ready to begin.

Do you deliver throughout the UK and Ireland?

Yes.

We regularly deliver throughout:

England
Scotland
Wales
Northern Ireland
Republic of Ireland

We also offer palletised delivery where appropriate for longer-distance productions.

Do you deliver to mainland Europe?

Yes.

We regularly supply productions across mainland Europe.

Where required, we can arrange ATA Carnet documentation and other customs paperwork to make the process as straightforward as possible.

Can deliveries and collections take place at weekends?

Where availability allows, yes.

Weekend and evening deliveries or collections can often be arranged to fit around your rehearsal schedule or theatre availability.

Please mention this when making your enquiry and we'll always do our best to help.

What payment methods do you accept?

We offer several payment options, including bank transfer and PayPal.

If you prefer to pay by PayPal, simply let us know and we'll provide a secure payment link.

When will photographs be available?

Photographs will be added progressively as principal costumes, ensemble costumes and accessories are completed.

Companies who register their interest will be among the first to receive updates and be notified when new images are added to the website.

What is your standard hire period?

All Thespis costume collections are supplied on a 10 calendar day hire, including weekends and Bank Holidays.

This gives most productions ample time for delivery, technical rehearsals, performances and collection.

Need the costumes for longer? Just let us know when completing the enquiry form, and we'll be happy to discuss the options available.

I also thought of another FAQ that fits perfectly with the Thespis way of working:

What information should I include when requesting a quotation?

To prepare an accurate quotation, it's helpful if you can include:

Group or school name

Production venue and location

Performance dates

Approximate cast size

Age range of performers

Whether your production is single or double cast

The final date you require the costumes

The more information you can provide, the more accurately we can tailor your quotation and advise on availability.
